Entrance of the Harbour of La Rochelle by Jean Baptiste Corot 1851


The painter Jean Baptiste Corot (1796 - 1875)
came to La Rochelle in july 1851.
He stayed for 3 weeks and was accompagnied
by his painter friends Comairas et Brizard.
Corot's La Rochelle paintings are considered to be
among the most impressionistic in his oeuvre.



Corot was born and died in Paris
but he also lived in Ville d'Avray between Paris and Versailles.
His Ville d Avray home, located on the Etangs de Corot has been protected.
Nathalia Brodskaya from the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg is a Corot expert.
