This page sets out the legal notice, the privacy policy (GDPR) and the cookie information applicable to the website VisitLaRochelle.com (the “Website”), in accordance with Articles 6-III and 19 of French Act No. 2004-575 of 21 June 2004 on confidence in the digital economy (LCEN). It is also available in French.

VisitLaRochelle.com is an independent, non-official tourist information website about La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime, France), part of the international “Visit Project”. It is not affiliated with the City of La Rochelle or its tourist office.

2. Publication director

The publication director is Mr Benedikt Prinz zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich, in his capacity as manager (gérant) of PHONEBOOK OF THE WORLD. He can be reached through the contact form.

3. Hosting

4. Intellectual property

The general structure of the Website, and the texts and material formatted by the publisher, are the property of PHONEBOOK OF THE WORLD or are used under licence. Any reproduction, representation, modification or adaptation, in whole or in part, without prior written permission is prohibited and may constitute infringement.

• Header photograph: the Old Port entrance by Jebulon, published on Wikimedia Commons under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (public domain) dedication.
• Wikimedia Commons images: other photographs and paintings are displayed directly from Wikimedia Commons under their own free licences or in the public domain; the small (i) on each image links to its source page with author and licence.
• Other photographs: photographs of hotels and partner establishments remain the property of their owners and are shown for illustration; credits are given in the captions where known.
• Trademarks: partner names and logos (Booking.com, Expedia, GetYourGuide, Tripadvisor, Amazon, Stay22…) remain the exclusive property of their respective owners.

5. Personal data (GDPR)

The Website respects your privacy and complies with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the French Data Protection Act (“Informatique et Libertés”). The publisher, PHONEBOOK OF THE WORLD, is the data controller.

• Audience measurement — Google Analytics: measures visits to the Website (pages viewed, approximate location, device type) using Google cookies.
• Advertising — Google AdSense: the Website displays advertising served by Google. Consent for advertising cookies and ad personalisation is collected by Google’s own consent message, displayed by AdSense. Google may in any case process limited technical data (such as your IP address) to deliver ads, prevent fraud and count impressions.
• Affiliate links — Stay22: the Stay22 “Let Me Allez” script converts links to booking platforms (Booking.com, Expedia…) into affiliate links. When you click such a link, Stay22 and the partner platform may set cookies to attribute the booking.
• Web search — Google Programmable Search: the Website’s own search runs locally in your browser; Google’s search engine is only loaded if you click “Search the web with Google”.
• Maps — OpenFreeMap / MapLibre: interactive maps use map tiles from OpenFreeMap (data © OpenStreetMap contributors) and the MapLibre library served by unpkg.com. Your browser contacts these servers (your IP address is visible to them) only when a map is displayed; no cookie is set.
• Images — Wikimedia Commons: many images are loaded directly from Wikimedia’s servers. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. These services receive your IP address for technical delivery only; no cookie is set by the Website for them.
• Videos — YouTube: where a video is offered, only a preview image is shown; the player (youtube-nocookie.com) is loaded only when you click it.
• Contact form: your name, email address and message are sent by email to the publisher, used only to answer you and not stored on the Website. The anti-spam check (a small calculation) runs on our own server, without any external service or tracking cookie; to limit abuse, a technical counter derived from your IP address is kept for one hour at most.
• No sale of data to third parties.
• Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability at any time, via the contact form. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL.

6. Cookies

• Essential — required to run the Website (no consent required).
• Analytics — Google Analytics (audience measurement).
• Third-party partners — booking and activity platforms reached through affiliate links (Booking.com, Expedia, GetYourGuide, Tripadvisor, Amazon, Stay22) may set their own cookies on their websites, under their own policies.

You can give or refuse your consent in Google’s consent message, and manage or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. For Google Analytics you may also use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

7. External & affiliate links

The Website contains links to third-party websites and affiliate links to travel and shopping partners (Booking.com, Expedia, GetYourGuide, Tripadvisor, Amazon), in particular through the Stay22 service. When you book or buy after clicking one of these links, the publisher may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. These links do not influence the editorial content. The publisher has no control over third-party websites and accepts no liability for their content or privacy practices.

8. Languages

The Website is available in English and French. As the publisher is a company registered in France, the French version of this legal notice prevails in case of discrepancy.

9. Liability

Information on VisitLaRochelle.com is provided for general tourist guidance. Despite the care taken to keep it up to date, the publisher cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of the information published (opening hours, prices, closures for works, availability, partners’ booking conditions), and shall not be held liable for any direct or indirect damage resulting from its use. Please check with the establishments before you travel.

10. Applicable law & jurisdiction

This legal notice is governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, and failing an amicable settlement, the courts of Paris, France, shall have jurisdiction.
